Who & what can acupuncture treat

Acupuncture can treat many complaints, both long term issues and acute conditions. You can also have acupuncture to stay well and strengthen health and immunity.

It is suitable for everyone, including children, expectant mothers, injured athletes and the elderly. It is helpful for people trying to overcome addictions such as those related to smoking, food or drugs.

If you do not want needles, we can use Tui Na, which is acupressure massage instead.

The number of treatments required depends on the individual and the situation. Sometimes the effects can be quite dramatic and only one or two sessions can shift blocked energy. Typically people come for four sessions over the course of a month. Then we review progress and make a plan from there.

I practice in as simple a manner as possible. We work to resolve your presenting issue and look at lifestyle practices that will support wellness and optimal self care.

I teach yoga and chi gong and can help you with movement practices that best fit your needs and work with getting your diet right for your constitution. I can help you with techniques to support good breathing and stress management.

Most peoples issues fall into two main categories of pain or stress.

Acupuncture is helpful to improve or manage painful conditions as it improves blood circulation and has systemic anti inflammatory effects.

On a simple level it releases tension held in the muscles and helps bring them out of spasm or tightness. It also impacts how we experience pain, enabling the brain and the central nervous system to find new pathways and adapt, and leave the expectation of pain behind.

Some conditions that respond well to treatment include:

  • Low Back Pain

  • Neck & Shoulder Pain

  • Sciatica

  • Frozen Shoulder

  • Arthritis

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Sports Injuries

  • Headache & Migraine

  • Menstrual Pain

  • Painful Digestive Conditions

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Most of us experience some level of anxiety and stress. When the nervous system is under pressure for extended periods this can keep us in an adrenalised (fight or flight) state which is exhausting and feels distressing, often strongly affecting our mind and emotions as well as creating an array of physical symptoms. Stress compromises the natural healing function of our bodies. It also creates the conditions for developing inflammatory or auto immune conditions.

Acupuncture creates the conditions for deep relaxation, supporting the natural healing capacity of our systems to prevail.

Symptoms that can be treated include:

  • Panic Attacks

  • Insomnia

  • Palpitations

  • Acid Reflux

  • IBS

  • Teeth Grinding and Jaw Tension

  • Shallow Breathing

  • Muscle Tension

  • Depression

  • eating disorders

  • trauma responses

Women’s Health

I have particular interest and experience in working with women and our particular health and emotional issues at various stages of our lives. I can support you with many situations including

  • Fertility support (men and women)

  • IVF support

  • Hormonal balance

  • pre natal preparation

  • pregnancy support and guidance

  • post partum support

  • menstrual issues

  • management of menopausal symptoms

  • prolapse

As a doula of many years experience I can bring my experience of caring for women through the childbearing years into our sessions.

All of the cycles of women’s lives, menstruation, the birthing of children and projects and menopause and our relationship to them have a really big impact on health and well being. I am committed to sharing good frameworks to help us as women orientate to our wisdom and our needs through all the phases of our lives.

I am a fully qualified Shadow Work Coach so if you are keen to explore underlying patterns and belief systems that play into your health and well being issues that is an avenue we can take.

Facial Acupuncture

Acupuncture on the face can be a wonderful way to rejuvinate, refresh and nourish ourselves. Our face holds so many of our stories and tensions, so gentle facial work can help to relax and release these patterns, allowing natural beauty to shine through. I work with great care and sensitivity and special needles that are even thinner than normal. The sessions are relaxing and nurturing.

Tui Na Massage

Tui na is Chinese massage which is tailored to your needs using the same process of diagnosis as acupuncture treatment. It is much more than a generalised massage and can be vigorous or very gentle depending on the situation. An effective and enjoyable treatment in its own right, it also combines beautifully with acupuncture and enhances the treatment. I usually offer both massage and acupuncture in a treatment.

Deep tissue massage

Deeply relaxing work, more Western in technique and using oil to provide release from aches and tensions. I weave in trigger point work and my knowledge of acupuncture to provide a powerful therapeutic effect.

ABOUT Me

I first became interested in healing when I was travelling in my teens. I trained in Thai massage and really enjoyed offering massages. My first degree was in Psychology, but I found the Western model of health did not offer me the foundation that I wished to base my working life upon. I had a powerful experience with qi gong and tai qi, the meditation and movement practices of the ancient Chinese tradition and this inspired me to continue my education with another degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine.

I have been qualified since 2002 and have been constantly exploring health and healing since then.

I am trained as a yoga teacher, doula and shadow work coach, and run regular workshops. You can read more about my other work connected with honoring our cycles of life here.
